This proverb means that we should not try to know the age of the horse when it is gifted. Usually the age of the horse is measured the state of its teeth.
Similarly when we receive gifts from friends and relatives, we should not look at the price. This is not the way to be followed. A gift is only a token of love and affection. Love or affection cannot be measured in terms of money.
There should never be a critical evaluation of a gift received. Nor can we guess a person’s love by the gilt presented. Money is important. But money is not every thing. Domestic needs can be bought with money. But affection and love can never be bought.
A gilt comes from the heart out of love and affection. It is in connection with an individual’s capacity.
A costly gift is only an exhibition of one’s status. This has got nothing to do with one’s love and affection.
A friendship starts between two persons from the heart and not from the
purse.
