This proverb emphasises that timely help is very important We have known many people in and around. They come and go in our life. They are not our friends.

One must identify a good friend. Some pretend to be good friends. We have to be selective in friends. A real friend will not desert his companion at the time of need.

In Mahabharatha, we come across Kama’s character. He joins Kauravas. Duryodhana was the leader of Kauravas. He helped Kama to earn name and fame. In due course, Kama understands that Kauravas would be defeated. Yet, he remains unchanged. He did not give up his friendship. He was ready to sacrifice his life for his friend Duryodhana.

Mere attraction or accumulation of wealth should not be an element of friendship. A real friend takes part both in happiness and sorrow.
Hence a friend in need is a real friend indeed.
